Heather Adie

After teaching at Yeronga, Charleville and Wynnum State High Schools, Heather was an advisor teacher for three years before moving into Inservice Education to become director of the Excellence in Teaching Program. This opened doors as the ‘teaching process expert’ for a successful three-year education development program between Australia and seven central African countries, involving many visits, workshops, safaris, etc. The corporate world appealed and Heather made the transition to change management consultant with Australian Airlines and other companies. Joining Qantas as an executive manager in 1993, she resigned in 2001 to freelance with IAG and Optus, retiring in 2007. John Allen

John celebrated his ninetieth birthday last October, making him one of the oldest QUT alumni. He taught at Greenslopes State School and later served in heavy artillery as a lieutenant at Port Moresby during World War II. He later taught in the secondary departments at Herberton and Charleville, and became the first principal at Maroochydore High School. He then became principal of Kepnock High School and later of Trinity Bay High School, completing his career as principal of the then Hendra High School. Roy Backer

Appointed a manual arts teacher in 1960, Roy taught all subjects from grade 8 to 12. From 1967, he taught at night with the Townsville TAFE College, specialising in senior geometrical drawing and perspective, first year architecture drawing, tracers working in drafting offices. He was appointed subject master and district moderator in 1970 and held both positions until he retired in 1989. Roy currently attends the University of the Third Age. 07 4773 5213.

Reverend Barbara Bailey

Registered as a pharmacist in 1961, Barbara was ordained as a minister of religion in her sixth decade, and she and her husband retired to Caloundra in 2004. She now manages a pharmacy one day a week and accepts supply ministry assignments occasionally. After graduating, Barbara worked full-time in retail until she had a family, followed by locum work. In 1991, she became involved in ministry with the Uniting Church, serving in Hughenden and Ayr before moving to Townsville to lead the Presbytery of north Queensland for seven years. After seven moves across five states of Australia, Rowan has finally settled in Brisbane. An engineer with Arup, he is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Business degree at QUT. Belinda was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2001. Joann Bucknell

After graduating, Joann lived in Cloncurry for two years where she was director of Cloncurry Kindergarten. She then moved on to do a six months stint as director of Moree Kiah Aboriginal Preschool and then one year with Charleville Multifunctional Child Care. For the last six years Joann has been in supply and short term positions with Education Queensland. Fiona Campbell

Fiona is currently convenor of the disability studies major with the School of Human Services at Griffith University. She recently returned from a six-month sabbatical in Sri Lanka where she established Sri Lanka’s first Diploma in Disability Studies at the University of Kelaniya and undertook research on disability law reform and colonialism. She has also been mapping Jewish burial sites in Sri Lanka. Rebecca Clarke

Rebecca is an actor and writer of poetry, short stories and theatre and has performed on stage, in short films and in television series such as Water Rats and Home & Away. In 2005 she performed her one-woman show, Unspoken which has received critical acclaim. The script for Unspoken was Highly Commended for the Philip Parsons Playwriting Award, and was shortlisted for the 2006 NSW Premier’s Literary Awards. At the 2005 Sydney Theatre Awards her show won the Best Independent Production Award and Rebecca was awarded Best Newcomer. Rebecca also received a GLUG Award for Performer on the Way. This year she is doing a Masters of Research (Playwriting) with QUT online.

Pamela moved back to Brisbane five years ago and continues to enjoy retirement at an over-fifties village with particular interest in tai-chi, lawn bowls, line dancing and exercising. Daphne is principal of an active music and speech and drama studio for all ages at Bulimba, Brisbane. She says there are only three such studios in Queensland teaching both music and speech and drama subjects. After 18 years with the Environment Protection Agency, it was a shock to Evan to retire. However, he says he keeps busy, recently receiving 17 young Japanese for a six-day visit. Bronwyn was recently awarded a National Health & Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Post-Doctoral Fellowship. She is undertaking her Fellowship with the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, Monash University, and the Centre for Clinical Research Excellence (CCRE) at the Queensland Aboriginal and Islander Health Council (QAIHC).
